Statement on Farm Odours in the Braes Area
A number of farmers within Falkirk area are spreading a range of different organic fertilizers on their fields at present. This is legally permitted and is accepted agricultural practice.
These organic fertilizers range from slurry/manure to treated sewage sludge cake which was used in the Braes area last week.
There is guidance contained in a Code of Practice available to farmers and their contactors on applying such material which Falkirk Council ensures is being complied with.
However, unfortunately due to the odorous nature of the material, even when the Code of Practice is being complied with in full, applications can occasionally give rise to short periods of unpleasant odours depending upon weather conditions and wind direction.
We are advised that the Braes farm in question has no further plans currently for spreading.
