Falkirk Council Scoops Top Local Government Awards

The communications work of Falkirk Council has been recognised by industry body the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) taking the top public sector prize at Scottish PRide awards on Friday (23 October).

The team picked up three coveted 'Gold' awards for; best public sector communications team in Scotland; best use of photography or design for the Falkirk Mod '08 and best internal communications work for a campaign to reduce carbon emissions.

The team were also finalists twice in the best use of community relations category for their work on the Falkirk Mod '08 and The Green Dog Walkers scheme.

The PRide awards represent the best in the communications industry and is a major showcase for the public and private sectors - Falkirk's five shortlistings brings the total achieved by the Council to 21 over the past six years, a record for a Scottish local authority.

Mary Pitcaithly, Falkirk Council's Chief Executive said: 'Communicating clearly with our many varied communities is a key Council function and it is very encouraging to see that industry experts have praised our work in this area.

'Competing and winning against other public sector bodies as well as with some of the biggest names from the private sector is a tremendous achievement.'

Debbie Byers, Chair of CIPR Scotland said: 'A CIPR PRide Award is a hallmark of professionalism and success - it identifies, recognises and rewards the outstanding achievements of those working in the PR industry outside of London.  To win a CIPR PRide Award is a tremendous achievement and I congratulate all of this year's winners.'

Caroline Binnie, Falkirk Council's Communications Manager said: 'Achieving the five nominations across a range of categories shows that the team are talented in many different areas and demonstrates their skills and abilities to produce high quality work.'
