Falkirk Council pupils' 2009 Standard Grade and Higher Results Improve
The percentage of S4 pupils within Falkirk Schools who gained five or more Standard Grade examinations at Foundation, at General and at Credit levels (or equivalent Intermediate awards) all improved this year to equal the Scottish average.
94% of S4 pupils have gained both a Standard Grade in English and Mathematics (or equivalent award) and this now exceeds the national average by 2%.
The percentage of S5 pupils gaining one, three and five Highers all improved this year and are now much closer to the Scottish average (within 1% or 2% of the National average, depending on the measure).
The percentages of S6 pupils who gained three and five Highers both improved this year and are also closer than before to the Scottish average.
Through courses run in partnership with Forth Valley College, a number of S4, S5 and S6 pupils have gained Skills for Work qualifications in areas such as Engineering Skills or Early Education & Childcare.
Julia Swan, Director of Education, said ‘I am delighted to see these improvements in examination results this year. In particular, the improvements in attainment in S4 are very pleasing as our young people have equalled or overtaken the Scottish average. The good figures at Credit level should provide a sound basis for even better results at Higher next session.'
