The Council is currently accredited as a Living Wage Employer by the Living Wage Foundation (LWF) and is committed to paying the recommended living wage rate of pay which means that we should implement the Living Wage hourly rate within 6 months of this being announced.

In November 2017, the Living Wage Foundation announced the hourly rate of £8.75. This would normally have been applied on 1st April 2018 as part of a national pay award. However due to the time taken in negotiating a national pay award, this had not been implemented.

The discussions on the national pay award, effective from April 18 are still continuing. Therefore in these circumstances, and in recognition of the commitment to the living wage, it has been agreed by Executive Committee that the rate of £8.75 will be paid to relevant employees in the next available pay run.

The hourly rate for employees in receipt of the Living Wage will therefore increase to £8.75 in January 2019 and will be backdated to 31st March 2018.
