Voters in the forthcoming Scottish Independence Referendum are being urged to consider using postal voting as a way of making their mark on the 18th September 2014.

Postal voting is becoming increasingly popular with voters as it is a simple process that can be completed in the comfort of your own home.

A short awareness campaign is being run by Falkirk Council that aims to make people more aware of the convenience of postal voting.

“At the European Election in May 2014, only 10.7% of the electorate in the Falkirk Council area had a postal vote, the lowest percentage in Scotland.”

To be eligible for a postal vote, you first need to be registered to vote.

You can download a postal vote application form from www.aboutmyvote.co.uk or collect a form in your local library

After completing the form, you send it back to the electoral registration office with your signature and date of birth for security reasons.

Rose Mary Glackin, Counting Officer for the Falkirk Council area said: “Applying for a postal vote is easy and could you save you time and effort on the 18th of September.

“Voting by post may suit people who find it difficult to get about or are leading busy lives and might find it difficult to get to their polling station on the day.”
