The Helix has been voted Best Environment Project by a nationwide public vote. The show is called “National Lottery Stars 2014” and celebrates the best of the nation’s lottery funded projects.

It is due to screen on Friday at 11:05pm on BBC1 Scotland. Viewers can watch Cllr Craig Martin, Leader of Falkirk Council and Andrew Thin, chair of Scottish Canals, receive the award from Laura Main, the Scottish star of “Call the Midwife.”

The ceremony includes a film celebrating the Helix featuring member of staff Ben Williams and Helix volunteer Tracey Fullerton.

The Helix was selected as one of 49 finalists from over 700 entries across the seven awards up for grabs.

Cllr Adrian Mahoney, Falkirk Council’s spokesperson for Tourism – who attended the awards ceremony - said: “We were delighted to win the environment category in the National Lottery Stars 2014, following public votes to find the nation’s favourite lottery-funded projects.

“Representatives from the Helix partners travelled down to Pinewood Studios last week to record the awards show. It was a glittering night, full of big name celebrities and talented people from all around Britain, involved in amazing projects supported by the National Lottery.

“I’d like to thank everyone who voted for the Helix project. Please all tune into the show on BBC1 on Friday night catch up with it on BBC iPlayer. There’s a great film about the Helix on the programme – as well as an emotional ending, celebrating a very special person.”
