The regeneration of Denny town centre could benefit from a £1.4m funding boost.

Falkirk Council submitted a bid for Regeneration Capital Grant Fund (RCGF), which is a scheme jointly led by the Scottish Government and local authorities. RCGF provides financial support for projects that deliver large-scale improvements and engage with local communities.

The funding can only be used between 1 April 2015 and 31 March 2016, which would mean construction of the new town centre could not start until next April. Construction would continue past the deadline for the RCGF money and subsequent funding would come from the Council or other resources.

This timetable would avoid a time clash with the ongoing demolition works, which are expected to be completed in January 2015.

Cllr Dennis Goldie, spokesperson for Economic Development said: “Regenerating town centres is a priority of the Council’s Local Development Plan.

“Denny town centre fits the criteria of the RCGF and so it is well worth applying for. Regardless of the success of the bid, we will kick on with the regeneration project.

The Council will find out if they have been successful in their RCGF bid in November 2014.
