The proposed budget saving of reducing primary school teaching hours was removed yesterday(31 March) at a full meeting of Falkirk Council.

As part of the provisional 2016/17 budget, savings were put forward including to 'review options to reduce Primary School teaching hours from 25 to 22.5 hours per week.' This will now not take place.

Members agreed at yesterday's meeting to ask officers to look at all possible alternative budget savings options and prepare a report to be brought to a future Council meeting.

Cllr Alan Nimmo, spokesperson for Education said: "After speaking to hundreds of parents, meeting with parent councils and taking their views on board we will no longer carry out the review.

“We will look at other ways to save money and balance the budget and I can confirm that the reduction in school hours will not go ahead.”
