Young people who are unemployed or about to leave school could benefit from more than 150 new modern apprenticeship opportunities being made available by Falkirk Council from this week (Monday 27 April 2015).

Vacancies are available in a wide variety of occupational areas including housing; health & social care; business administration; early years’ childcare and in a variety of trades including plumbing, electrical, plastering and slating as well as a number of civil engineering and related opportunities.

To qualify, applicants must be aged under 20 (before 31 July 2015), be resident in the Falkirk Council area and be currently unemployed or a school leaver by summer 2015.

The apprenticeship will last between 12 months and four years and applicants will receive a nationally recognised training as well as quality on the job work experience. They will also receive a wage which will vary depending on the occupational area and level of apprenticeship.

Pamela Smith, Falkirk Council’s Employment and Training Manager said: “Our existing modern apprenticeship programme has successfully helped thousands of young people who had few or no qualifications get into full time and permanent jobs. We have also provided opportunities at a higher level for young people who have opted to earn while they learn instead of undertaking full time higher education.

"We’re looking for enthusiastic young people who are looking for a career in a wide range of areas and who will receive a wage throughout their time on the programme and a nationally recognised qualification following successful completion of their training."
