An important local park will become a Centenary Field as part of a national initiative to commemorate the sacrifice of those who lost their lives in World War One.

Members at yesterday’s (Tuesday 19 May) Executive agreed to put forward Zetland Park in Grangemouth for the initiative, which is being led by Fields in Trust and supported by Poppy Scotland and the British Legion.

Zetland Park’s oldest area contains an impressive war memorial which predates World War Two. This area will be legally protected for future generations. A commemorative plaque will be provided by Fields in Trust, whose patrons include HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Cambridge.

November 2018 will mark 100 years to the month since the end of World War One and the initiative aims to establish a Centenary Field in every local authority area in the UK by then.

There are already a number of legally protected King George V and Queen Elizabeth fields in the local area from past Fields in Trust initiatives. People can make use of these greenspaces in Redding, Larbert, Carronshore, Bonnybridge, Denny, Bo’ness, Camelon, Avonbridge and Stenhousemuir.
