Picktober, a campaign to reduce litter across the Falkirk Council area is back for a third year!

In previous years, the month long clean-up has tackled the canals and the John Muir Way but this year the focus is on local communities.

The Picktober 2015  theme is ‘Ma Bit’ which aims to encourage local people to clean up their own communities during the month of October.

There’s already 23 clean ups organised to take place in October by local community groups, schools and nurseries!

Councillor Jim Blackwood, spokesperson for Community Safety said, “No one wants to see litter on their doorstep and that’s why this year’s Picktober will support hundreds of volunteers clean up their villages, towns and workplaces!

“It really is very encouraging to see how many people have taken part in Picktober since it was launched in 2013 and this year is no exception!

“Hundreds of local people including pupils and local businesses have organised clean ups as part of ‘Ma Bit’ which will certainly contribute to cleaner communities across the area.”

Last year an army of volunteers including 334 children and 199 adults cleaned up the 32 miles of the popular walking route, the John Muir Way, which runs through the Falkirk Council area. They managed to collect 242 bags of litter and 18 bags of recyclable waste during the month long campaign.

Falkirk Council’s Litter Strategy Team co-ordinate the campaign, provides all equipment, and organise collection of the rubbish following each clean up.

There’s still time to organise a clean up! Find out more about Picktober on our site.
