All secondary schools in the Falkirk Council area will soon have a police officer based on site.

An initiative to extend the school based police officers was given the go ahead by members of the Education Executive.

In 2007/8 police officers moved into Larbert and Denny High Schools as part of an initiative to improve joint working between schools, local communities and the police. Four years later community based police officers moved into Braes, Falkirk and Grangemouth with the final three –Bo’ness, St Mungo’s and Graeme High - announced today.

A Falkirk Council spokesperson said: “We have worked in partnership with Police Scotland for some time to provide  school based police officers in the majority of our  schools, who work across the whole cluster including primary schools.

“We have now extended this initiative to all our secondary schools which should deliver real benefits to the young people attending schools across the Falkirk Council area.”

The Campus Based Police Officers initiative aims to:

  • Reduce the number of exclusions
  • Reduce the level of anti social behaviour in schools and in the community
  • Reduce crime, bullying and truancy in the area
  • Increase restorative processes
  • Improve ethos within schools.
