Finding new individuals and families in the Falkirk Council area who can offer a home to children or young people is the aim of an information evening being held on 31st August, 7-9pm at the Park Hotel Falkirk.

Falkirk Council is looking for new foster carers to come forward to look after children for anything from a few days to, weeks, months or even years depending on their circumstances.

Existing foster carers and social workers will be on hand to talk through the application process, relate their real life experiences and explain the support, training, and payments involved

We need carers from across the Falkirk area who can offer a home to local children of all ages, but particularly teenagers and sibling groups.

Councillor Linda Gow, spokesperson for Health and Social Care said: “Fostering children and young people has proven to be a life changing decision both for the foster carers and for those they care for. It can be challenging however the comprehensive and ongoing support you receive throughout your period as a carer ensures that you are fully equipped to cope with everything that can happen.

“We are fortunate in Falkirk to have a highly thought of fostering service, and committed carers who love the job and value the support and training, but we need more carers to ensure our children can stay in their own locality and siblings can stay together.”

“The information evening is a relaxed and informal way of hearing first-hand what it is like to be a foster carer and what is involved, and we would encourage anyone who is interested or has thought about this in the past to come along to the Park Hotel in Falkirk on the evening of the 31st.”

Applications to become a foster care are welcomed from

  • people from any race or religion
  • single people, or couples of any sexual orientation
  • people who are in work or unemployed
  • people with children of their own and people who don't have children of their own
