Around 2,400 disposable protective face masks have been donated to communities across the Falkirk Council area by the Yueqing People’s Government in China.

The masks were donated to Provost William Buchanan who has in turn handed them over to the Falkirk Health and Social Care Partnership (FHSCP). The FHSCP now plans to distribute these masks across the Falkirk area where they can be of most use.

Worldwide gift

The donation was part of a worldwide gift, with masks sent to another seven locations across the globe recognised as ‘sister cities’.

Falkirk's association with the Chinese city began almost a decade ago at the invitation of Yueqing, with the aim of establishing business links and economic, cultural and educational opportunities.

Green and lively, Yueqing is a city in Zhejiang Province, eastern China, with a population of around 490,000.

"Generous donation"

Provost Buchanan said: “This is a generous donation on behalf of the Mayor of Yueqing and the Yueqing People’s Government, and it celebrates the goodwill that exists between us during such difficult times.

“We will be arranging for the distribution of the masks as soon as practical and to where they would be most useful in local communities.”
