The range and type of information and support required by parents will change as their child progresses through different stages of education. The following outlines what parents are entitled to and what they can expect from schools and the local authority.
- Information on their child's progress in nursery/school.
- Flexible opportunities to discuss their child's progress and development.
- A range of methods of communication, including written, verbal and electronic, to ensure accessibility for all groups.
- Opportunities to be involved in their child's education, the wider life of the school and to work in partnership with the school.
- Advice and support from schools, nurseries and partner agencies.
- To feel valued, respected, have their opinions considered and, where appropriate, acted upon.
- Access to advice and support in a variety of ways eg through Falkirk Council's website, printed leaflets, school brochures (translated if requested), face to face.
- Access to personal help and advice to support their child's education.
- Opportunities for involvement in groups which represent the parent community eg Parent Councils, Parents Focus Group, Community groups.
- Equal opportunities for all parents.
