What do I need to be able to vote?
You need to be on the electoral register to vote in all UK elections and referendums. You are not automatically registered even if you pay council tax.
How do I know if I am registered to vote?
Your local electoral registration office (the Central Scotland Assessor) can tell you if you are registered to vote.
If you filled in the annual canvass registration form that came through your door between August and November last year you should still be registered and do not need to register again unless you have moved home since then.
How do I register to vote?
You can register for future elections by filling in a form and returning it to your electoral registration office. You can download the electoral registration form from the Assessor and electoral registers page, or from the Assessor for Central Scotland's website.
Am I eligible to register to vote?
You can register for future elections if you are:
- 16 or over (but you cannot vote until your 18th birthday)
- a British citizen
- an Irish Republic or Commonwealth citizen living in the UK
- a citizen of a European Union (EU) country living in the UK
- a citizen of the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man living in the UK
