The Antonine Wall in the Falkirk Council area -- Roman altar at Kinneil Museum: several small altars such as this have been found in the vicinity of the Antonine Wall and its forts. This altar was found in 1963, west of the Westerwood fort. It was set up to fulfil a vow after the successful outcome of a prayer to the Roman deities.
It reads:
SILVANIS (ET)
QUADRIS CA(E)
LESTIB-SACR
VIBIA PACATA
FL. VERECV(ND)I
LEG.VI.VIC
CUM SVIS
V.S.L.M.
Translation:
'Sacred to the celestial goddesses of the Woodland and Crossroads. Vibia Pacata, wife of Falvius Verecundus, centurion of the Sixth Victorious Legion, willingly and deservedly fulfilled her vow along with her family.'
Vibia Pacata's husband may have been commander of the fort at the time.
