Food Inspection Reports

All food businesses require to be registered with the food authority (the local Council) and are subject to regular inspections by Environmental Health Officers or Food Safety Officers.

The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 entitles members of the public to ask for information which is held by public bodies. This has had the effect of many requests being made to this Service for the release of food inspection reports carried out by our officers. In order to make it easier for the public to get access to these reports, it has been decided to publish them online.

Reports are listed for inspections carried out from 1 April 2006 onwards. The site will be updated on a monthly basis. If you are looking for a particular business that isn't listed, it may be that it has not been inspected within this time period. A report will appear following the next routine programmed inspection. Businesses are listed by the exact name given when they registered with us, and not necessarily how they would appear in the Phone Book. For example a business may be listed in a number of different ways, such as -

Red Dragon, (listed under R), or The Red Dragon (listed under T), or Good Food Restaurants Ltd, (listed under G), or James Smith (Restaurants) Ltd, (listed under J)

Premises are inspected for Food Hygiene or Food Standards or both:

Food Hygiene Reports

Officers inspect for the hygienic compliance of the premises and food handling practices.

Food Standards Reports

In these inspections, the labelling & composition of food is checked. For example, the date coding of food and that accurate descriptions are given. Foods must also show if they contain allergens, such as nuts, eggs, gluten and so on.

Please bear in mind that the reports shown will relate only to conditions found on the date of inspection and that conditions may have changed since then. Remember also that premises change hands from time to time and may continue to trade with the same name, but have different management. Reports which include current or pending legal proceedings are not published until those proceedings are complete. Every endeavour will be made to remove individuals' names and personal details.
