Duke of Edinburgh's Award

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a challenging programme of activities that will help you learn new skills, help others and experience adventure, and will give you a great sense of achievement.

It involves three levels of attainment:

  • bronze
  • silver
  • gold

Each level contains four sections:

  • service
  • skills
  • physical recreation
  • expedition

At gold level you will also be required to take part in a residential project.

The Award is open to all 14 to 25 year olds:

  • bronze award – 14 years and over
  • silver award – 15 years and over
  • gold award – 16 years and over

The Award is:

  • non-competitive: a personal challenge, not a competition
  • available to all: anyone can do it
  • voluntary: it’s up to you
  • flexible: your programme is designed by you
  • balanced: it will stretch you in all directions
  • progressive: you improve at your own pace
  • achievement focused: you can not fail
  • a marathon: not a sprint
  • about personal development: it is taking part that matters
  • enjoyable: having fun
