What is an MSYP?
MSYP stands for 'Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament'.
Background to the SYP
The Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) generally meets four times a year, to discuss issues which affect young people across Scotland and tries to propose innovative and sometimes radical solutions to these problems and situations.
All major decisions in the SYP are taken by young people aged 25 or under. All of our directors are this age, though we do have an Advisory Committee, which includes professionals from our various partners.
The current Office Bearers of the SYP, elected by their peers for 1 year in June 2009, are:
-
Chair: David Couper, MSYP Livingston
-
Vice Chair: Liam Beattie, MSYP Roxburgh & Berwickshire
-
(& a number of office bearers on Convenor groups)

The main offices for the Scottish Youth Parliament are based at Rosebury House in Edinburgh with Young Scot, YouthLink Scotland & COSLA however, every Local Authority area has a person responsible for taking forward the Scottish Youth Parliament agenda and supporting MSYP's.
In the Falkirk Council area we are currently working on planning to take forward an election for x4 members of the Scottish Youth Parliament – x2 for Falkirk West and x2 for Falkirk East.
Young people will be invited to put forward manifesto's and then Falkirk Council will enter an election period of voting; through schools, youth clubs, open days and other services within the community.
If you would like more information on the MSYPs role, the election process or would like to get involved in putting your views forward on local issues please contact Ankale Denovan on the details in the Contact us section.
