Current exhibition, Saturday 28 June to Sunday 27 July 2008:
How do I look in this?
Paper sculptures and mixed media work by Susan Cutts and Julia Douglas
The work of both Susan Cutts, a paper sculptor, based in West Sussex and Julia Douglas, a mixed media visual artist based in Edinburgh is informed significantly by the language of clothing and the meaning and transience of material things.
Both artists take a unique approach to the creation of their work, in the materials that they use and explore as well as the themes and issues that they address. Integral to their work is the consideration that the objects that we accumulate are statements of ourselves.
How do I look in this? provides a contemporary viewpoint to the Prêt-à-PORTER exhibition, at Callendar House, 28 June to 19 October 2008, which presents one woman's unique clothing collection, accumulated primarily during her time as an air stewardess in the 1950s and 60s.
The curation of the Prêt-à-PORTER exhibition has informed aspects of the work made by Susan Cutts and Julia Douglas for 'How do I look in this?'.
