One of our seasonal facilities, Birkhill Fireclay Mine, is located in Bo’ness and can be accessed as part of the Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway experience. Experienced guides take visitors on a 45 minute tour from the station platform into the underground workings of the mine. Designed to give visitors an insight into the life of a miner, the visually stunning tour takes in 300 million-year-old fossils.
Visitors are advised to check in advance with Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway with regard to railway timetable and mine opening times on 01506 822298 or by emailing enquiries.railway@srps.org.uk|
Please note: Access to the mine is via a steep staircase down into the gorge, which makes it unsuitable for disabled, very young and elderly people.
