It’s easy to use the public computers in Falkirk libraries. All that’s needed is to be registered as a library user and sign our Acceptable Use Policy. All the libraries have computers for public use, many of which are self service.
The machines provide access to the internet and all of the Microsoft Office packages. Access is free of charge with only a small charge to cover any printing costs.
Scanners are provided in the libraries and a machine with Dolphin Supernova software for use by visually impaired users. Large key keyboards and trackball mice are also available.
Falkirk Library also has Cicero software allowing documents to be scanned and translated into speech.
Libraries hold computer courses in the basics of using a PC. These include:
-
PC basics
-
internet taster sessions
-
using email
-
using a scanner
The courses may be group sessions or individual tuition, but all are informal and provide a starting point for those wanting to find out more about using a computer.
More advanced courses – on topics such as family history research, digital photography, and safe surfing – are run occasionally.
Wi-Fi in libraries
Free wireless internet access is now available in all Falkirk Council libraries.
The wireless access has been funded by the Scottish Government Public Library Quality Improvement Fund and transmits 24/7.
