Family history

Many people are now researching their family history and all the libraries carry some material which would help in the search for ancestors.

Falkirk Library holds the largest collection of resources. The Census records from 1841 to 1901 are held on microfilm as are the Old Parish Records for the Falkirk Council area. These record births, deaths and marriages up to 1854. The Falkirk Herald, which goes back to 1845, is often a valuable source of information. There is an index of Death notices for the Herald for 1845 to 1910 and for war deaths from 1914 to 1919 and 1939 to 1946.

Libraries also hold information on CD-Roms. These include resources such as 1881 British Census, Army Roll of Honour 1939-1946, Soldiers Died in the Great War, and West Lothian Census for 1851.

Public access to the internet is also available in all libraries.
