Our Norwich Union Star:track Festivals provide exciting opportunities for children aged 5–13 to take part in athletics and learn the basic FUNdamentals, develop and hone these skills through various games and events.
Star:track began in spring 1992 initially as a programme of athletics which followed major athletics events. The Star:track programme was a fun introduction to athletics. As the years progressed the Scheme has evolved and developed into a year round programme supported by UK athletics in partnership with Norwich Union.
UK Athletics' key aims for the Norwich Union Star:track scheme are:
-
Raise the profile of athletics amongst children in the community.
-
Introduce children to athletics in a fun and exciting format.
-
Introduce athletics to minority groups.
-
Introduce, support and develop coaches and officials.
-
Help more children to stay involved in athletics, through increasing the level of 'follow on' activity.
-
Help children to improve their athletic skill and give them the opportunity to progress their performance.
We have just finished our popular Easter Athletics festival which covered both weeks of the school Easter holidays. Children had the opportunity to attend one week or both weeks.
