Flytipping

Flytipping, or illegal dumping, is a serious abuse of the environment. It generally consists of large items of rubbish which are left by householders and businesses in back courts, lay-bys, watercourses and other areas instead of being disposed of properly at a landfill site, recycling centre or tip.

Anyone flytipping is committing a serious offence|.

Flytipping is unsightly, cleaning it up costs the taxpayer money, and it can cause damage to the environment and to health.

Flytipping in the Falkirk Council area

In the Falkirk Council area it is also absolutely unnecessary. Any household rubbish that will not fit into your wheelie bin can be taken to our Recycling centres / civic amenity sites| or a special uplift can be requested by calling 01324 504411.

Businesses can arrange a commercial waste uplift from the Council or from a private waste contractor. In addition you can take your business waste to the civic amenity sites / recycling centres providing you have purchased a Small Traders Tipping Ticket.

Illegal dumping: there's no excuse

At present Falkirk Council routinely monitors some 70 known flytipping sites, clearing them as required. In addition we respond to ad-hoc complaints about flytipping on Council land.

If rubbish is dumped on privately owned land, the Council will liaise with the landowner (if they can be identified) and, where necessary, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and Central Scotland Police to take appropriate action.

CCTV surveillance equipment has recently been purchased and will be used to monitor flytipping sites with the purpose of gathering evidence for prosecutions.

Falkirk Council is guided by the recommendations of the Scottish Flytipping Forum and supports the national ‘Dumb Dumpers|’ campaign.
