Since March 2000 Falkirk Council has been working in partnership with Keep Scotland Beautiful|, the recognised agency for litter abatement in Scotland. Our People and Places Partnership with Keep Scotland Beautiful gives us access to a network of most Scottish local authorities and other agencies such as Network Rail which, like Falkirk Council, are looking at ways to curb the rising litter problem (and associated issues such as flytipping) across the country.
Keep Scotland Beautiful is therefore a key partner in the development and implementation of our Litter Strategy. As part of our People & Places partnership we are required to produce an annual action plan detailing our proposals for improved service provision, community education and enforcement. This action plan is endorsed by Keep Scotland Beautiful and demonstrates our commitment to the objectives of the Litter Strategy and the People & Places Programme.
Keep Scotland Beautiful oversees our programme of cleanliness monitoring as well as providing us with advice and training on a number of other local environmental quality issues.
Scottish Flytipping Forum
The organisation has recently been commissioned by the Scottish Executive to establish and co-ordinate a Scottish Flytipping Forum, is taking forward the consultation on a Voluntary Code of Practice for the fast food industry, and provides training on a wide range of topics, ranging from litter and waste legislation and enforcement to successful campaigning.
National and international campaigns
Keep Scotland Beautiful also employs staff to manage and co-ordinate a number of other national and international environmental programmes and initiatives including the EcoSchools| and EcoCongregation Programmes, Clean Coast Scotland and the Waste Aware Scotland| campaign.
