Our campaign ‘Litter: There’s No Excuse' has been running since April 2004. We use a wide range of media to ensure our message reaches as many people as possible - you may have seen our adverts and posters on Council vehicles, on litter bins, in the cinema or your local library.
Our recent ‘strands’ of the campaign focus on issues such as dog fouling, School litter and most recently, litter on private or unmaintained land.

Clean Zones
An area of land can be designated a “CLEAN ZONE” once it has been adopted by either a community group or school who agree to regularly keep it free from litter. Once they have successfully satisfied all the project criteria they will be presented with a Clean Zone sign to be erected in their clean zone. Examples of potential Clean Zones include: parks, pathways, community gardens, roads, cul-de-sac/ estates, woodlands, canal paths and rivers.
For more information or to sign up see the Clean Zone page.
Trashdance
The Litter Strategy and Active Schools teams joined forces to deliver a flashmob in the Howgate Shopping Centre.
A flash mob is a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and sometimes seemingly pointless act for a brief time, then disperse.
In this case we were doing it to spread our anti-litter message. To see the video and find out more visit the Activity Zone|.
Dog Fouling Campaign
In 2009 we launched the campaign “Shameful, Filthy, Selfish!” It was very successful and the results of a recent questionnaire (January 2011) showed that the majority of respondents saw the campaign and felt that the hard hitting images helped to bring the dog fouling situation to the public’s attention.
For more information see our Dog Fouling Campaign| page.
Green Dog Walkers
Green Dog Walkers (GDW) is a non-confrontational, friendly way to change attitudes about dog fouling in the Falkirk Council area. Volunteers wear a GDW armband (or their dogs wear the green GDW collar) which signifies that they have "taken the pledge".

National Spring Clean
Through National Spring Clean, Keep Scotland Beautiful encourages people to get together and help pick up litter from their neighbourhood each spring: a time of year when Scots traditionally give their homes a clean sweep and starting spending more time outdoors again after a long winter.
