Small pockets of land across the area are looking for some care and attention!
If you have time, patience and ‘green’ fingers you could help transform lonely, litter strewn plots of land and brighten up your local community.
Orphan Land is a project which gives the local community an opportunity to take ownership of a piece of unmaintained land that may be full of litter or used as a dog toilet and is in need of some tender loving care. The developments have to be of benefit to the whole community.
The Litter Strategy Team is offering up to £500 of funding to help transform areas of orphan land.
The land can be:
-
Privately or Council owned, permission will need to be secured – but we can help you with that!
-
Large or small
The improvements do not have to be permanent fixtures; it could simply be a general clearing up of the site, cutting back, re turfing and planting of a few plants and trees. If you're more ambitious a community garden or allotment can be created with our financial help and specialist advice.
What to do now:
-
Find a piece of Orphan Land
-
Try find out who owns it
-
Get volunteers together
-
Draw up a rough plan
-
