Section 4 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 explains the duty placed on the Council to keep land clear of litter and other refuse such as dog fouling.
Estates Management’s operational resources are deployed to ensure that all maintained land meets the cleanliness standards as set out in the Code of Practice on Litter and Refuse.
Operation resources consist of 72 operatives, 20 motor vehicles and 16 mechanical sweepers to meet the operational needs of the service. We are continually working with our staff to improve our service delivery by deploying our resources effectively and efficiently in the areas where they are most needed.
Resources are divided into four geographical areas and are deployed to meet the specific demands of each area. There is also a responsive service to supplement area resources and to provide a rapid response to action removal of debris from road traffic accidents, syringes and offensive graffiti.
