General Information
Falkirk Council has a duty in terms of The Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949, to ensure that infestations of rats and mice are eradicated (this does not mean, however, that we are required to carry out the work or make arrangements for the work to be carried out).
It is, generally speaking, either the owner or the occupier of the land who is responsible for ensuring that infestations are eradicated.
Treatments Provided
A pest control service is provided to treat a variety of pests including, rats, mice, wasps, bees* and most pest insects (with the exception of ants, earwigs, body/head lice or woodworm).
* Treatments will not normally be authorised for bumble bees or masonry bees except in special circumstances, as these are harmless and numbers are declining. Similarly swarms of honey bees will normally passed to beekeepers to remove. Treatments for eradication will only normally be authorised where the swarm has gained access to a house.
Our officers will also provide advice to individuals wishing to treat pest problems themselves.
Treatments which are not provided
We do not provide a service to treat problems with ants, slugs, snails, millipedes, spiders, bats, birds, seagulls, foxes, moles or rabbits.
The pest control service covers a large variety of pests there are some practical limitations to the work undertaken. Some large and specialised jobs may be beyond the resources of the service and accordingly it would be the responsibility of the householder to arrange a private pest control company to deal with the problem.
On occasion the location of a wasps nest is inaccessible to our officers e.g. too high and in such circumstances it is the responsibility of the householder to provide suitable access.
In general bird control problems are excluded from the Council's pest control service and householders should make direct contact with companies who have specialist expertise.
Similarly treatment of woodworm is considered to be a specialist field out-with the scope of our service.

A charge of £30.90 including VAT is payable in advance for all treatments. Payment may be made over the telephone by calling 01324 504981 or at any Falkirk Council Finance Office.
