Rent Consultation

Have your say!

The consultation about rents for the financial year 2012/13 closed on Thursday 29 December.

Tenants had the opportunity to have their say in the rent consultation via our website or by using the freepost envelope enclosed in our winter Newsletter.

Results of the Rent Consultation for 2012/13 (available shortly)

Consultation results including individual comments are taken into account as part of the decision making process about rent levels.

After views have been gathered, Registered Tenants Associations receive details of the results along with the Council House Rents and Investment Programme budgets, which are agreed at Policy & Resources Committee in February 2012. These reports are also available on the Committee section of our website.

Our newsletter ‘In the Neighbourhood|’ regularly reports on how tenants have influenced the services we deliver.

Comments after the end of the consultation are welcome and may still be taken on board for future years. To find out more about how you can influence housing services, please follow the link below:

Using tenant feedback

Where a social landlord proposes to increase rents generally, it must first consult those tenants who would be affected and have regard to the views they express. These requirements are contained within Section 25 of the Housing (Scotland) Act 2001.

Falkirk Council is committed to involving tenants in developing our approach to rent consultation. Our approach reflects feedback from the 2010 Tenants' Conference Rents Workshop and discussions at the Registered Tenants' Forum in 2011.

Tenants involved said that the following information is important when consulting on rents:

  • How rent levels compare with other social landlords
  • Housing quality standards
  • Our performance
  • Reasons for the proposals
  • What rent money is spent on and how this compares with other landlords

Are tenants happy with how we consult on rents?

At the March 2011 Tenants’ Forum, tenant representatives gave positive feedback on the level of consultation and information provided during the 2011/12 Rent Consultation, which they helped shape. All further Rent Consultations will be evaluated accordingly. If you have feedback on this issue, please contact us using the details in the ‘Contact Us’ Section.
