Look after your home this winter - Beat the Freeze
Simple tips to protect your home and your belongings:

Keep your house warm day and night. Check your heating has been serviced annually.

When temperatures are low open your loft hatch.

Make sure you know where your stopcock is and check you can turn it off.

Insulation keeps the heat in, the cold out and the cost down.

Make sure you have home contents insurance.
Eat well, keep warm and stay healthy:

Keep your house warm or at least heat the room you use the most to 21oC.

Eat at least one hot meal each day and have plenty of hot drinks too.

Wear several layers of thin clothing rather than one thick layer.
If you do get a burst pipe:

Turn off the water supply at the main stopcock

Switch off any water heaters

Switch off the central heating system

Let solid fuel fires die down
-
Turn on all cold water taps to drain your system

Collect water in the bath for washing
-
Warn neighbours who may suffer damage
