Do you have enough energy? We should try to save energy now to save the environment in the future.
Climate change - what’s the problem?
At the moment we use too much energy. This releases large volumes of carbon dioxide gas which in turn causes changes in the climate. These may lead to changes in rainfall patterns, a rise in sea level, and a wide range of impacts on plants, wildlife, and humans.
Every house in the UK produces around 6 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year. That is enough to fill six enormous hot air balloons!!!
Are you an ‘energy saver’ or an ‘energy waster’?
Can your actions really make a difference? The answer is yes! There are many ways that you can save energy and help the environment, why not:
-
When at home or school switch off your TV, computer or games console when not using it. Even on standby they use electricity.
-
Close your curtains when it gets dark and keep the heat in.
-
Have a shower instead of a bath. You can have five showers for the cost of one bath.
-
Don’t open the windows if your room gets too hot, turn your radiator down!
-
Where possible, why not ride your bike or walk instead of being driven in a car? This will save energy and keep you fit!
-
Use rechargeable batteries, they're cheaper in the long run too!
Fun facts…did you know?
-
The energy saved from recycling 1 glass bottle can run a 100w light bulb for 4 hours.
-
Recycling 1 tonne of paper saves 15 average sized trees.
