The Housing (Scotland) Act 2001 gave tenants new rights to information, consultation and participation on housing matters that affect them. It also gave landlords legal responsibilities in relation to tenant participation. Some of these duties are:

to develop and implement a tenant participation strategy

to set up arrangements for the registration of tenant organisations

to inform and consult with tenants’ organisations and individual tenants on a range of housing and related issues.

Why are we holding this event?
In previous years, we've held Tenants' Conferences which were formally structured with workshops and presentations. Although those who attended gave us positive feedback about the conferences, attendance was low. So, this year we've decided to try something new.
People – and you don't have to be a Falkirk Council tenant to participate – can drop into the event when they are in the town shopping, rather than having to attend a formal conference.
Councillor Gerry Goldie, Convener of Housing and Social Services, will formally open the event at 11am. We'll be there until 3pm and there will be a selection of healthy snacks as well as some useful "freebies" to take away.
So, please come along and talk to us!
