You may want to share the responsibilities of your tenancy with someone who lives with you. Each joint tenant is jointly responsible for all of a tenant's obligations under the Tenancy Agreement. For example, joint tenants are jointly responsible for the rent, and so if one tenant leaves, the remaining tenant will be responsible for any outstanding rent.
If you would like to have a joint tenancy, you can apply at your local housing office for permission to change your tenancy. Alternatively, you can complete an application by clicking on the link below. We will consider your application and will let you know whether we agree to grant a joint tenancy.
In assessing your application the following points will be considered:
-
A Scottish Secure Tenant can apply to become a joint tenant with one or more people.
-
Our written approval is required.
-
The proposed joint tenant(s) must live or intend to live in the property as their only or principal home.
-
All cases will be considered on their own merits and permission will not be withheld unreasonably.
