Rent levels

Rents are charged on a fortnightly basis with 2 free weeks. This means that there are 24 charging fortnights per year and two “non charging” fortnights per year,(usually at the beginning of July and over Christmas). However tenants who fall into arrears must continue to pay rent throughout the year.

General needs housing
Rents vary according to the size of the property, where it is and whether or not it has central heating and double-glazing. More information on average rents can be found on the Council House rent page|.
Housing with care
The rents for housing with care tend to be a little higher than general needs housing because of the care and support services that are provided. For information on rent levels for individual Housing with Care developments download our Housing with care directory (PDF, 5.95MB)|
Homeless persons temporary housing

There is a rent charge for all types of temporary housing. This is generally more than for general needs housing because the charges have to cover the costs of managing the accommodation and providing furniture. Sometimes the charges will also include gas, electricity and Council Tax. The rent and charges may also vary depending on the type and size of temporary housing provided.

If you are given temporary accommodation the charges will be explained in detail. The rental charge is eligible for Housing Benefit.
