This project supports the employment of a Credit Union Development Officer. Recently 3 of the existing 5 credit unions operating in the Falkirk area have amalgamated to form the Falkirk and District Credit Union with a common bond of "anyone who resides in or is employed in the Falkirk Council area." At present the new Credit Union has 1000 members from existing credit unions and 2 new branches which have opened due to the direct result of the extension to the common bond.
Existing Credit Union provision currently covers approximately 30% of the Falkirk Council area and the objective is to assist the Credit Unions to expand and open branches throughout Falkirk offering services to the other 70% of the population.
A particular target of the initiative will be to roll out sub branches to the areas within the worst 15% SIMD.
