Grangemouth Family Substance Abuse Support Group Family Support Outreach Project

Grangemouth Family Substance Abuse Support Group was set up initially in 2001 as a self help group to provide support for families in crisis.

The project has grown steadily over the last 6 years and has provided ongoing support to over 100 families in the last year alone, with a particular focus on deprived communities in the Falkirk Council area as identified by the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD 2006). Support is offered in a variety of ways to suit individual needs, including:

  • Providing a support service for families in crisis – via one to one, group sessions, telephone support
  • Providing a 24 hour helpline
  • Home visits (where appropriate)
  • Providing access to information and training for family members and volunteers

Through support from the Fairer Scotland Fund the project aims to achieve:

  • Increased no. of families receiving support
  • Reduced stigma & isolation of family members
  • Family members having increased knowledge of drugs and their affects
  • Increased awareness of issues faced by family members within local communities
