Lifelong learning and opportunity is a new theme for the Falkirk Community Planning Partnership. We intend to promote the value of raising attainment and achievement in our communities. This theme is at an early stage in its development, so issues raised are more general and less specific than with the other themes. We intend to work together to develop an action plan that determines our shared priorities and the strategic actions that are necessary to achieve these.
The key themes will be:
-
attainment and achievement
-
early years learning
-
skills development for employment
-
family learning and support for families
-
access to lifelong learning
-
providing positive, nursery, school and continuing educational prospects
-
community-based learning.
Opportunity to learn
It is important that everyone has the same opportunity to learn. Through learning we can ensure that all our citizens can make positive contributions to society by enabling them to respond to the changing employment market, maintaining physical and mental health and by encouraging families to be active learners and learning for enjoyment and self fulfilment. We can also ensure that we pursue an integrated service-based approach on this.
Educational attainment and achievement
It is relatively easy to measure the educational attainment of individuals, groups and schools in terms of examination results. However, there is more to personal and collective achievement than that. Schools and Forth Valley College are clearly at the cutting edge of raising attainment in education and will continue to put in place a range of strategies to meet this aim. Increased collaboration will be required by all partners to widen provision and extend the learning day to meet partnership objectives.
Personal attainment and achievement
Recognising, acknowledging and celebrating achievement is equally important and is likely to promote further personal achievement while helping raise attainment at the same time. For many individuals arts, sport and outdoor activities provide a high level of interest and a source of satisfaction.
One of the main purposes of promoting personal and social development is to assist our communities to gain a broader understanding of their relationships, rights and responsibilities. Through this, individuals can examine their personal values, achievements and aspirations, as well as their relationships with others in all walks of life. Partners involved in the learning theme will work with individuals, groups and communities to help achieve this vision by improving and developing the quality of personal, family and community life and by building a stronger and more thriving community. There are also contributions that the community can make in helping to achieve our priorities. The can include acting as volunteers, mentors and role models.
