Regardless of where your income comes from, the ability to make key financial decisions is an essential life skill that will enable you to manage your day to day expenditure and cope with unforseen emergencies.

Falkirk Council is committed to providing services that will increase the financial security and wellbeing of our citizens by:

  • increasing the choices of financial products and services
  • promoting a better understanding of the consequences of choices made regarding finance
  • ensuring that those who rely on benefits are able to maximise their household income
  • assisting people to reduce their debts
  • ensuring that people are not pushed into poverty or prevented from accessing essential services

Latest Universal Credit News

Universal Credit is being introduced over the next two Parliaments alongside a new work programme to help those who are looking for work. It is the Government's intention that Universal Credit will replace a number of benefits that are currently available to working age people, including Housing Benefit.

Univerals Credit will be introduced from October 2013 with existing working age claimants transferring over by April 2017. Council Tax Benefit is being replaced by local rebate schemes and is not intended to form part of Universal Credit.

The Welfare Reform Bill which will introduce Universal Credit is currently progressing through Parliament and is still subject to revision.
