Community groups and not for profit organisations and charities can apply for grants of up to £25,000 from the Green Energy Trust for up to half the cost of installation of renewable technologies.
The majority of awards are around £10,000 for projects with a really strong community benefit and wider educational element. The Trust considers all kinds of renewable technologies, including small-scale hydro, wind power, biomass, landfill gas, solar energy and ground source heat pumps. Applications involving other technologies may also qualify for support. Grant requests must be to support the capital and installation costs of a renewable energy project.
The Trust will next meet in April 2010 to consider applications which should be submitted as soon as possible. They will be screened for eligibility and completeness as long as they are received seven weeks prior to the Trustees' meetings, with the final deadline being four weeks before the meeting.
