What was the consultation about?
Carrongrange School is Falkirk Council's only secondary school for pupils with moderate,
severe and complex additional support needs. Since the school was opened in 2000,
the profile of pupils has changed considerably and Carrongrange School now caters
for pupils with a very wide range of learning difficulties and physical needs.
In 2012 the Scottish Government approved a bid for funding to rebuild Carrongrange
School on a new site as part of their "Schools for the Future" programme. Falkirk
Council can now deliver a new state of the art secondary school for pupils with
additional support needs which will be purpose built from the outset for pupils
it now serves and to deliver the Curriculum for Excellence.
Why did we consult?
The Schools (Consultation)(Scotland) Act 2010 requires that a formal consultation
is carried out with all interested parties for any proposal to relocate a school
as pupils, their families and school staff will be affected by any proposed move.
Following investigation of available sites across the Falkirk Council area, two
potential locations have been identified and agreed by the Council's Education Executive
as suitable for the school:
- Land alongside Moray Primary School in Grangemouth
- Weedingshall in Polmont
Interested parties were invited to respond in the selection of a preferred site
for the new school from these two locations.
How did we consult?
A consultative document was sent to the parents/carers of all pupils currently attending
Carrongrange School; staff at Carrongrange School; parents of pupils currently receiving
additional support needs provision in primary schools; parent councils of all schools
affected; elected members, community councils; trade unions; Education Scotland
and other local authorities with pupils currently attending Carrongrange School.
Two public meetings were held as follows:
- Moray Primary School - Tuesday 17 September 2013
- Carrongrange School - Tuesday 24 September 2013
