The Consumer Protection Unit operates within the Environmental and Regulatory Service of Development Services. The main objectives of the Unit are to:
-
promote a healthy, safe environment for all members of the community
-
enforce regulatory and licensing controls
-
investigate consumer complaints and give consumer and business advice
We work in conjunction with Consumer Direct Scotland, who now gives initial advice and assistance to consumers with a problem.
We handle matters as diverse as taxi licensing, licensing for the sale of alcohol, gaming licences, civic licensing, houses in multiple occupation, counterfeit goods, fair trading, fireworks safety, and weights and measures.
Our staff includes Trading Standards Officers, Licensing Officers, Administrators and Support Staff.
Our main regulatory, advisory and educational functions are listed in the navigation menu on the left. Please contact us if we can assist you with any related matter.
The unit works in two teams: Licensing| and Trading Standards|
