Consumer safety legislation is enforced by Trading Standards to ensure the safety of residents and consumers in the Falkirk Council area. This legislation applies to consumer goods (including toys, electrical goods, cosmetics, upholstered furniture etc). Many of the provisions also apply to second-hand goods.
Enforcement is achieved through the inspection of premises, sampling and testing of goods, the investigation of complaints by consumers, and the provision of advice and information to consumers and traders.
Trading Standards also licence the storage of petroleum spirit, the sale of poisons and register the storage of fireworks and other explosives.
