Who do we work with?
As a major partner of the Central Scotland Strategic Coordinating Group (CSSCG) we work very closely with all Council Services, neighbouring councils and the Emergency Services to prepare plans and develop emergency response procedures.
We also work closely with the Scottish Government, the National Health Service, Voluntary Sector such as the British Red Cross, WRVS, St Andrews First Aid, and other similar groups willing to assist during an emergency situation or disruption within the community.
Why do we do it?
The Civil Contingencies Act 2004, the Control of Major Accident Hazard regulations 1999, and other legislation, place particular duties and obligations on local councils and other partners to fulfil identified duties and obligations to enable an effective joint response to any disruption whether seen or unforeseen.
The Community Risk Register (PDF, 432KB)| developed in partnership and held by Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service identifies potential risks and hazards in our area such as:
-
industrial accidents
-
environmental pollution incidents
-
transport accidents
-
severe weather incidents
Identifying risks and hazards in advance assists in making our local communities and businesses more resilient to the risks they may encounter. This pre-planning is essential to prepare for, respond to, and recover from incidents and emergencies which may occur, and is recognised towards easing the effects of such an incident or emergency.
The Scottish Government's Preparing Scotland| document provides more detail regarding the statutory guidance and the implementation of the regulations. Preparing Scotland also considers good practice and the integration of national and local planning for emergencies.
