Who do we work with?
To prepare plans and develop emergency response procedures, it is necessary to maintain a close working relationship between Council Services and the Emergency Services - Police, Fire and Rescue Service and Ambulance Service.
We also liaise with the Scottish Executive, neighbouring Councils, the National Health Service, Voluntary Aid Societies such as the WRVS, British Red Cross and St Andrews Ambulance Association - and any other group which could help in an emergency.
Why do we do it?
There are many hazards that could cause or threaten death or serious injury to people and also damage property. Storms and floods are just some of the problems the weather can bring, other dangers include industrial accidents and transportation accidents. If a major emergency of this sort was to occur advanced planning and training could save lives - and would ease the effects of such an incident.
The Civil Contingences Act 2004, the Control of Major Accident Hazard regulations 2005 and other legislation place particular duties and obligations on local councils. Falkirk council works with our partners in Integrated Emergency Management to ensure the development of flexible and adaptable arrangements that will enable an effective joint response to any disruption whether foreseen or unforeseen.
When do we do it?
Every effort is made to foresee hazards and plan in advance, but if there is an incident the emergency planning unit plays a vital role helping with the co-ordination of council services in support of the emergency services.
