Natural pollution occurs in our air, such as gases and ash from volcanoes, windborne dust and grit, and pollen.
Our bodies have been designed to cope with some of these natural pollutants, e.g. our airways produce mucus to trap particles of dust and grit.
However, manmade pollution can have a negative impact on air quality and can affect our health. It can come from a variety of sources, such as:
-
bonfires
-
factories and industry
-
cars, buses, lorries and trains
-
power stations
-
aeroplanes
-
domestic coal fires.
