The Environmental Protection Unit is responsible for carrying out the animal welfare regulatory functions imposed upon the Council by legislation. The unit can issue licenses for the following:

dog breeding establishments

animal boarding establishments (kennels, catteries)

horse riding establishments
-
pet shops
-
dangerous wild animals (monkeys, alligators, some snakes, etc.)
Regular inspections of these premises are carried out, sometimes in conjunction with a veterinary surgeon. It is illegal to operate any of the above without the appropriate licence.
