Environmental Protection

The Environmental Protection Unit operates within the Environmental and Regulatory Service of Development Services. The main objectives of the unit are to:
  • promote a healthy, safe environment for all members of the community;
  • enforce regulatory and licensing controls;
  • encourage environmental awareness within the community;
  • continually monitor air quality and regularly measure levels of radioactivity;
  • investigate complaints of noise and public health nuisance;
  • identify and remediate contaminated land;
  • co-ordinate Council emergency planning;
  • implement our Waste Strategy to reduce waste going to landfill and promote recycling and waste prevention.

The unit has three teams:

  • Environmental Health
  • Civil Contingencies
  • Waste Strategy
