The Food & Safety Regulation unit carry out a number of statutory functions on behalf of Falkirk Council in its multiple roles of Food Authority|, Port Health Authority| and Health & Safety Enforcing Authority|.
This involves the regular inspection of food premises, sampling of foodstuffs and inspection of workplaces. We enforce the smoking ban in public places.
We work in partnership with Forth Valley Health Board in the prevention, investigation and control of food borne and water borne communicable disease|.
We check on street traders, markets and other businesses who apply for licences and report to our Licensing section.
We monitor water quality and investigate complaints about private water supplies, recreational waters and public drinking water.
Some officers of the Council have various legal powers to carry out investigations, gather information, take samples, take photographs, serve notices and in some cases, submit reports to the Procurator Fiscal.
